ALEXANDER RAEVSKI
1979 Chisinau. Lives in Chisinau
PR@MD. Photo, 2007
One part of the photo series PR@MD by Alexander Raevski has been taken in the Moldova capital Chisinau, the other part in the Transnistria capital Tiraspol. Transnistria is an officially unacknowledged republic on the border of Moldova and Ukraine that is de jure part of the Republic of Moldova. Raevski makes a parallel photo reportage in both capitals, and through a simple comparison, brings forth the differences of the cities. On one side you see a 15th century statue of a national hero and European integration, on the other, a statue of Lenin and total oblivion.
Raevski uses photo as anthropological documentation always with some kind of personal addition. In this series, the city where the photo is taken, is indicated by a few coloured details. The colours refer to the colours of the national flag – Moldova being blue, yellow and red, Transnistria being red and green. The @-symbol, or "sobatchka" ("doggie") is like an evil dog between the relations of the two neighbours.
