NANNA DEBOIS BHUL
1975 Århus. Lives in Copenhagen and New York
Postcards – Tivoli. 16mm film on dvd, 11:30 min, drawing on paper, 2006–2007
In her works, Nanna is observing different aspects of Scandinavian welfare society and everyday life. She is an artist whose work is socially very sensitive, focusing on topics that vary from new feminist attitudes to questions of national identity and politics of architecture.
Nanna's film takes us to Tivoli amusement park in Copenhagen, built in 1843 in oriental style. She questions the colonial legacy of Denmark, tracing the processes of national identity building via leisure time architecture and attempts to cultivate people's habits in a small peripheral country in order to create modern cosmopolitan citizens. Nanna's movie reconsiders the cultural-political function and meaning of the amusement park in Copenhagen.
