New Movements in Fashion, animation, 9:24 min, 2006
Nathalie is a master of D-I-Y plasticine puppet animations which are very ambiguous by their visual character as well as content – childish look is combined with hollywood-like scenery, the narratives of the works vary from perverted sexual fantasies to hardcore racist situations. For Proposals, two works – The Natural Selection and New Movements in Fashion – were selected as a pair to be presented together to comment and complement each other. The pieces are alike – the action takes place on stage, both works are about representation and evaluation of body, about biopolitics and marketing of physical qualities of human body. In New Movements in Fashion five supermodels are playing around and changing their outfits directly on stage, their roles varying from school girls to lesbian lovers, from ballet dancers to little babies. The Natural Selection is also about demonstrating bodies, but for totally other purposes – it is a slave market. In both animations, all the commands and comments are given in the background in faulty English, the works are rhythmed with monotonous electro-beats. These shows will go on...
