Patriotism. Museum. Installation, 2007

R.E.P. group is an artist collective based in Kiev. R.E.P. – Revolutionary Experimental Space – produces critical actions and interventions in public space.
Patriotism. Museum is the next episode of Patriotism series, a huge spacial installation composed of an artificial visual language invented by repists. Patriotism dictionary includes visual analogues for different words and notions, so that the viewer can literary "read" the work. The particular project is site-specific: taking place in the former building of National Art Museum, it discusses two models of museum – old, didactic and conservative museum, which aims to produce independent expertise in the field of art, and the new type of museum as consumerist paradise that is dependent on the rules of show-industry. Mural represents the conflict between "socially directed" and "neo-liberal" models of relationships between state and culture.
